Business Profile

Annette and Andy Witheridge welcome you to The Salty Monk, an award-winning sixteenth century restaurant and Bed & Breakfast in sidmouth, devon. Purchased in 1999, this boutique two AA Rosette bed and breakfast has been sympathetically restored to provide a luxury, relaxing and rejuvenating experience.

The Salty Monk is the perfect b&b in sidmouth to use as a base for exploring East Devon or as an escape for a romantic break, wedding or honeymoon.

Originally a Salt House used by the Benedictine Monks who traded Salt at Exeter Cathedral, this Devon restaurant with rooms is situated in the Sid Valley just one mile from Sidmouth town centre and close to Lyme Regis, Honiton and Cathedral City of Exeter. There are many fantastic walks in the immediate area with the Jurassic coastal path and the famous Donkey Sanctuary just up the hill from us.

Both chefs by trade, with an eye for meticulous detail, we pride ourselves on using the best of Devon's larder with home grown or organic produce wherever possible. Our two AA Rosette restaurant provides elegant surroundings in which to enjoy a relaxing or romantic dinner. As everything is made on the premises, people with dietary requirements have no need to worry.

Our well appointed comfortable rooms may feature either a whirlpool bath or maybe a hydro massage shower but all include thoughtful extra touches. Relax completely in the exclusive mini spa with outdoor sauna, hot tub, work out in the fitness studio or join a yoga class. The Salty Monk enables you to replenish, relax, revive and recharge.

Awarded 2 AA Rosettes for excellence, The Salty Monk is a boutique hideaway in the heart of the Devon countryside. A stock of produce sourced from across the West Country is served up on the menu, with dishes complemented by a wine list of both well-known and unearthed-gem bottles. Winner of a 'Best Coastal Cream Tea in Devon' award, enjoy delicious homemade scones lathered with jam and locally-churned clotted cream.
