About Us
he Hebridean archipelago stretches for 130 miles off the far western coast of the Scottish mainland, hence they are also known as The Western Isles.
The largest of the islands is Lewis which is land bridged to Harris, although they are very different in landscape and culture. Lewis is also linked by bridge to Great Bernera, Harris has a bridge across to Scalpay. If you set off early enough it is possible to take in all the islands in a day however you wouldn't have time for any stops, or to truly explore places. At Tour Hebrides we can arrange a tour that will make the most of the time you have available, even if it's only an hour.
Making the most of a visit to the islands depends on what it is you want to experience. There are an abundance of historical sites, world famous beaches, wildlife and sealife. Visiting such sites and areas by yourselves, or in a large group, you miss out on the trivia, the stories associated with the people and places. As locals our drivers know the legends, rumours, even gossip that can offer that extra dimension to make you feel, for a while at least, an intimate part of the Hebridean lifestyle.
Looking for your ancestors? Many visitors to the islands come in search of their roots, searching the past, trying to knit together the story of descendents who forever called the Hebrides home. Times past when families were split, loved ones having emigrated in search of new horizons. Whilst there is help at hand in looking up lost relations, Tour Hebrides drivers can take you to the villages, give you an insight of the area from a local perspective, quite often sharing the oral history that would never grace the pages of a book, or documentary.
